Iran 'Implementing Nuclear Programme Deal'

Written By Unknown on Senin, 20 Januari 2014 | 16.15

Iran has started implementing a deal to curb its nuclear programme, the country's state TV has confirmed.

Centrifuge cascades have been disconnected at the Natanz nuclear plant, where some of Iran's most sensitive uranium enrichment work takes place, the broadcast said.

Equipment at the plant is capable of 20% uranium enrichment, close to the level needed to make a nuclear bomb.

UN inspectors were reportedly present as Tehran started fulfillng its obligations under the agreement reached with six world powers in Geneva last November.

They then moved on to monitor the suspension of enrichment at Fordo, another nuclear site in central Iran.

The Geneva deal will see Iran get limited sanctions relief in return for scaling back its nuclear ambitions.

Iranian state TV quoted the deputy head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organisation Behrouz Kamalvandi as saying: "The suspension of 20 percent enrichment has started at the Natanz plant and the international Atomic Energy Agency inspectors are going to the Fordo plant."
