An American who has been jailed in North Korea for over a year has appealed to the US government to secure his release.
Kenneth Bae, a Korean-American Christian missionary, appeared before reporters in what he called a press conference held at his own request.
Mr Bae was arrested in November 2012 while leading a group of tourists in the northeastern region of Rason in North Korea. He was accused of crimes against the state and sentenced to 15 years of hard labour.
At the press conference, he expressed hope that the US government would do its best to secure his release.
Mr Bae was moved from a prison camp to a hospital last summer because he was in poor health and had lost more than 23kg (50 pounds).
His mother visited him in hospital in October.
Mr Bae, who had been living in China for several years before his arrest, is the longest-serving American detainee in North Korea in recent years.
